The company was founded in July 2003 by Elana Newman, who, as Artistic Director of the Cape Town Concert Series in South Africa, engaged and presented over 500 internationally acclaimed musicians including Andras Schiff, Boris Berman, Yefim Bronfman, Nigel Kennedy, Vadim Repin, Tokyo String Quartet, Jerusalem String Quartet, Vienna Piano Trio, David Geringas, Natalia Gutman and Peter Wispelwey.

She was also committed to providing a platform for emerging stars, and for South African artists such as Sibongile Khumalo, Abdullah Ibrahim and Amampondo.
